Hyde Park`s notoriously popular festive feature, Winter Wonderland, re-opened last week, expecting to attract thousands of visitors. But what are the best Christmas attractions and activities to do in London? Read on to find out and get the festive juices flowing!
5) Breath in the Air at Harrods
For most people Harrods is a bit of a fantasy. The famous store attracts thousands of visitors each year, most of whom visit in December. However, part of the thrill is not actually buying anything (very few can afford to!) but simply being there and absorbing the festive atmosphere. The spectacular displays, mouth-watering foods and sheer antiquity are a sure-fire way of getting you in that Christmas mood.
4) Skate Your Troubles Away at Somerset House
Ice skating has been a popular winter activity for decades and perhaps the most atmospheric location in the city (possibly even the country) is in the grounds of the magnificent Somerset House. From the 11th of November until the 11th of January the ice rink shall be one of the most popular attractions in the capital, as it has been since its conception. Prices are on the cheap side, so there`s really no excuse not to join in with the festive fun!
Opening this year for the first time in East London`s Victoria Park is Winterville - a spectacle of all things Christmas. For delicious street food, wintry beverages and all-round great entertainment be sure to visit the attraction, which opens on the 2nd of December. There will be a whole roster of festive things do including an ice rink, fairground, Christmas market and what they`re calling the Spiegeltent - where some of London`s best alternative entertainment can be witnessed, including comedy, club nights, opera, and cabaret. And best of all, admission is FREE!
2) Stroll Through the Lights Along Oxford Street
Oxford Street boasts what can only be described as the country`s most dazzling Christmas lights display. The popular shopping street will sparkle for a fifty-fifth year this Christmas as its full length will be decked with 1,778 glowing white orbs. The lights are the same as last years, but it doesn`t matter because they were that magnificent!
1) Wow Your Senses at Winter Wonderland
No London Christmas checklist this year would be complete without mentioning the mesmerising Winter Wonderland. The most impressive markets and attractions will no doubt be on display here, where ice kingdoms and grottos evoke a fantastical, fairytale world. Admission to the site in FREE, however you will have to purchase tickets to the individual attractions, including The Magical Ice Kingdom, Lycamobile Ice Rink, Santa Land and various circus shows.
